“That’s just the beginning”. It sounds like in a film, but this is actually the beginning and all fresh starts are full of wishes and dreams. Firstly, we dreamed our school to be multilingual. This is the dream; reality is not so poetic: a plurilingualism project for our school and four more. This little logbook –simple and humble- tries to be an introduction to one dream and several realities.
At the very beginning, our school spoke a little English: new signage pointed out all places in two languages and our very useful school diary too. Our classrooms were provided with corners for displaying slogans, projects and posters in the three languages and the most amazing thing was to hold multilingual weeks (Semaine de Salutation en Français, Settimana del salutto in italiano y Greetings Week in English). Everybody would ‘say hello’ in each language.
Our busy weeks also started with a special morning prayer in English on Mondays, listening to the Gospel. Each afternoon was scheduled with extracurricular activities. Many classmates have been preparing their assessment with Cambridge and a very big group of teachers has been attending English classes at our school on CEFR A2, B1 and B2 levels.
We have enjoyed very remarkable celebrations such as Thanksgiving Day (27th November) and St. Patrick’s Day (17th March), two non-British celebrations. Other two celebrations have made the difference in our school: our supportive Fish’n’chips and our 2nd edition of Languages Day, this year on the same date as the International Book Day. Our kids from Primary 4th level have enrolled on BEDA assessment programme and Secondary level students have just participated in the Big Challenge.
However, that’s just the beginning. These words are not able to hold all our hope, effort and work that our school develops when tries to fulfil this project. We know that much help is at our hands: teachers, students, parents… We also know that it will be the boost to make all our educative goals true; the objectives we set a year ago with this Project Trust. Don’t forget it: that’s just the beginning!
“Esto es sólo el principio”. Suena a película, pero realmente éste es sólo el principio y todos los principios están llenos de ilusiones y sueños. Al comienzo soñamos con que nuestro colegio fuera plurilingüe. Este es el sueño; la realidad es más prosaica: un proyecto de plurilingüismo para nuestro colegio y otros cuatro más. Este pequeño cuaderno de bitácora, sencillo y humilde, quiere ser la presentación de un sueño y varias realidades.Nada más empezar nuestro proyecto, nuestro colegio ya hablaba un poquito de inglés: una cartelería nueva avisaba en dos idiomas de todos los lugares y nuestra querida agenda comenzaba a hacerlo también. Nuestras clases contaban también con rincones para recoger frases, trabajos y posters en tres idiomas, y –lo más curioso de todo- comenzamos a celebrar las semanas plurilingües: Semaine de Salutation en Français, Settimana del salutto in italiano y Greetings Week in English. Todo el mundo saludándose en el idioma de esa semana.
Nuestras semanas comenzaban también haciendo la oración de la mañana y escuchando el evangelio en inglés. Las tardes se llenaban de clases extraescolares. Muchos compañeros han estado preparándose para los exámenes de Cambridge y un grupo bien nutrido de profesores han estado formándose en los niveles A2, B1 y B2.
Hemos disfrutado también de celebraciones tan especiales como el Día de Acción de Gracias (27 de Noviembre) y el Día de San Patricio (17 de Marzo), dos celebraciones religioso-culturales no británicas. Otras dos han marcado la diferencia en nuestro colegio: nuestro Fish and Chips solidario y nuestra 2ª edición del Día de las Lenguas –en este caso coincidiendo con el Día del Libro.
Nuestros alumnos de 4º de Primaria han sido evaluados en las pruebas BEDA, así como los alumnos de Secundaria han participado en el reciente Big Challenge.
Pero… esto es sólo el principio. Estas palabras no pueden recoger toda la ilusión, esfuerzo y trabajo que nuestro centro está realizando impulsando este proyecto. Sabemos que contamos con mucha ayuda: profesores, alumnos, padres… Sabemos también que todo eso será el impulso que hará realidad todos los deseos educativos que nos propusimos hace un año con este Proyecto Trust. No lo olvides: ¡esto es sólo el principio!
